Analyse the water before drinking

The analysis of drinking water is an essential part of IWAO’s disaster operations. In conflict areas the water has to be analyzed before it can be distributed to consumers. Important criteria are cloudiness, the content of disinfecting agents, salinity, pH-value or bacteria like E. coli. The only way to ensure that drinking water is safe is through diligent analysis. Until there are any reliable result, IWAO recommends boiling the drinking water in the conflict area.

The chemicals used for analysis in conflict areas must be durable and impervious to heat. The procedures should be simple. The industry already offers space-saving and robust small devices that meet these requirements. It is important that experienced specialists, like the ones organized within IWAO, carry out the analysis of the emergency water. Otherwise mistakes concerning the analysis process may have serious consequences.

IWAO does not only provide its expertise. The organisation also has got lists of devices that are available at fire departments and water works and can be used in case of a catastrophe.
